Kemble Close

Demolition began last Friday (21st September 2012) at these flats on the Sherwood Park estate. The area will be re-developed into more community inspired, lower rise housing. These flats were built in the late 1960s/early 1970s; all this land was originally the grounds of the Sherwood Park House, where Sir William Siemens lived in late Victorian times. The post World War Two housing shortage saw all this land acquired for “Council Housing”. A large amount of Gregg’s Wood remains, from Greggswood Road to Blackhurst Lane, and includes the Sherwood Lake.
