Ice skating!

For the second year running Calverley Grounds in Tunbridge Wells has been transformed into an ice-rink. Bigger, and therefore I suppose better, this year, surrounded by craft chalets and a cosy home for Father Christmas, the normal cafe is open as well as a cafe and bar inside the skate-office. Very sadly, but being winter not to be un-expected, when we went for a shop and lunch (no skating) session, it rained! However a few valiant skaters carried on, the less able aided by push-along orange seals. The trees are strung with lights, and may be worth a visit to Hotel du Vin (pictured), the original Calverley House, to look out over the grounds. There is also a small stage set up in the BASIL cafe, with a promise of music some evenings.

  1. “Oddly” : I know what you are saying, I’m just hoping my pennies in the pots of the crafters and Basil will help to secure the Mela next summer for everyone. Plus if you are under ten or love Christmas, the grounds are looking pretty with the lights in the trees, and a bit of “Ah” in the deep mid winter warms the cockles of most people’s hearts….
