We can make no claim for being there at the start, eight and a half years ago, but we were there over Easter weekend for the 999th and 1,000th ‘Paul Dunton and Guests, Local music by candlelight’ shows at the Grey Lady. Two extra long shows (Monday’s ran to seven acts) featured, as you’d expect, local, live, music. Plus on Saturday there was April’s ‘Local and Live Electric at The Forum’, which Paul hosts as a taster event for the main Local and Live event in August. A pleasant, but tiring weekend.
Photos show The Standard Lamps at Friday’s 999th show – and read more about Mike and The Lamps, written by me, here; Ed Jones & The Diamond Cuts in The Forum; David Migden & The Twisted Roots finishing off the 1,000th show on Easter Monday.
The audience at the Grey Lady raised the roof (it does need a serious bit of DIY), the audience at The Forum rocked to the vision of Audiowhores, and everyone is waiting to hear the full set of plans for summer’s Local and Live in Calverley Grounds. Now in it’s 9th year as a free to view showcase for original, local music, it is supported by fund-raisers such as this Saturday’s Local and Live Sessions at Trinity Theatre. With a roster of nearly 500 (I think!) artists – there’s plenty of choice in genres, and venues, for everyone to enjoy Tunbridge Wells music.
